the radio guy part 1
my life is full of randoms. that's what makes it so fun, right? latest example-i went out last night w/a dude that does a radio talk show down here in san diego(from here on out just called DJ).
before i anger the masses by mis-labeling said gentleman, i think there is some difference between talk show host and disk jockey. the latter plays music? maybe a better term is "radio personality"? a dj plays records but not always on the radio. a talk show host can be on radio or tv. anyway... i dunno what the hell they're called, so for my sake i'll just say DJ.
i had listened to the guy's show for a couple months & developed a mini crush on the unseen voice on the radio. he was oddly appealing and seemingly pretty cool. they said they had a myspace profile, i also found the object of my weird crush to be kinda cute.
one day on a whim i called the show to invite myself to help them dig a hole to hell (give me a break- it was for the 6-6-06 show!) then it segway'd into conversation on a satanic orgy. i was up for it, even in jest. sure, orgies are ok but i dunno about having one with satan. so i thought that was the end of it.
a few days later i decided to post a comment on their show profile. something along the lines of "i totally wanted to dig a hole to hell w/you guys. i love the show. ps i'd totally do DJ". ya, i'm a myspace dork. i didn't think anything of it, more or just a silly sassy thing than an attempt to contact the dude or anything.
i get an email the next day from DJ saying "i'd totally do you too, call me". funny. i thought it was a joke b/c i wasn't expecting the guys to look at their profile, but maybe expected the interns to do that or something. i had some junior high flashback where i call this guy and he goes "WHO?" when i say who it is, then i say "uh, didn't you tell me to call? no, awww ok bye". i sent my number back & suspected i'd never hear from him. surprise surprise, like an hour after i sent that i get a call from DJ. very odd to hear the same voice over the phone that i had listened to on the radio each night. but he seemed a genuinely cool guy and, for lack of a better term, normal. i was a little intimidated- which is something that is NOT normal for me, regardless of the guy. after chatting for a bit to make sure he wasn't either 1)completely fucking psycho, 2)expecting me to actually just come over there and follow up on my promise of doing him, 3)completely fucking psycho, i agreed to meet him for dinner the next night. "well", i thought, "at least it will make a good blog".
so, yes, i met him for dinner. yes, there's more to the story. yes...
all i will say is that i had a good time, he's very cool (a lot cooler than i was expecting) and it was fun. that's all...
